Chase Race and Paws had its beginning March 11, 2006 as an event to celebrate the brief life of Donald Lee Chase Potter, 1991-2005. Chase’s parents, Don and Cheryl Potter, searched for a way to perpetually continue the legacy of their 13-year old son who loved animals and suffered from traumatic brain injury. His parents, both runners, focused on a running event that could be partnered with pets. So the dream of a Chase Race became real. It is now a quality, fun and exciting annual event that occurs near March 12, the date of his death. The Chase Race events include:
- a quality and competitive Arkansas RRCA championship two-mile race/walk.
- a separate one-mile competitive or fun event for runners/walkers with leashed pets
- and a “Paws” best costume contest for pets. Must be entered into 1 Mile race to participate. Judges will award winners based on pets in costume in the race.
Chase Race and Paws promotes and raises funds for a Conway Residential facility for adolescents.
This year, all proceeds from the events will benefit Haven, which is a residential facility for adolescent females in Conway.
The Chase Race Board of Directors are: Alan Lucas, MD, Amanda Castillo, Carla Brockman, Cathy Potter, Cindy Stage, Claudia Courtway, Sherry Hall, Teresa Blumenberg and Don Potter.
